AI Research Engineer - Datadog AI Research (DAIR)

As a Research Engineer on our team, you will collaborate with Research Scientists to turn groundbreaking research ideas into tangible, working systems. By building the data, tooling, and infrastructure needed to accelerate iteration and evaluation, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between prototype and production.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement data pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure to support rapid iteration and trustworthy evaluation of AI research prototypes.
• Collaborate with Research Scientists to refine research ideas, identify technical requirements, and develop feasible implementation strategies.
• Design and develop robust, scalable, and maintainable software systems to support AI research initiatives, including multimodal foundation models and trained agents.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate AI research prototypes into production-ready systems, ensuring seamless deployment and minimal operational disruption.
• Contribute to the development of simulation environments, RL training loops, and evaluation infrastructure to train agents that match or surpass frontier models at a fraction of the cost.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, code repositories, and project-related artifacts to facilitate knowledge sharing and team collaboration.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in AI, machine learning, or a related domain.
• 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on large-scale systems, distributed computing, and cloud infrastructure.
• Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy AI-powered solutions.
• Familiarity with research methods, including design of experiments, data analysis, and statistical inference.
• Excellent programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, and containerization using Docker or Kubernetes.
